Media and researchers alike often focus on the dark side of sleep: that (and why) we don’t get enough sleep, and that sleep deprivation has significant adverse impacts on biological and mental health, well-being, productivity and error rates. Amongst the many other things sleep researchers study, they also study behaviors and interventions that promote sleep.
There are several big ideas behind mySleepButton’s current and upcoming cognitive shuffle packs (as well as DIY versions). I’ve written some papers about these ideas before, and am currently co-authoring a new paper with Célyne H. Bastien on the subject. The theory we are developing is called the “somnolent information-processing theory“.
In mySleepButton 1.4.9, introduced last week, we resolved the mySleepButton crackling issue, that we had been tracking on our iOS support page, and that we had mentioned in previous blog posts.

CogSci Apps Corp. co-founder Dr. Luc Beaudoin accepted an invitation from The Institute for Heart + Lung Health (IHLH) to present on “wearables and their health value” at the 2018 “Engage Heart + Lung Health FEST”. This University of British Columbia-affiliated event will be held Feb 6-7, at Sheraton Vancouver (registration here).

While we are very happy with the feedback we have received about mySleepButton, we continuously strive to improve the understanding of sleep onset and our techniques to promote sleep. This leads us to update mySleepButton packs. These updates are based on user feedback, log data, developments of Beaudoin’s Somnolent Information-Processing theory, and other developments in
As we have noted on our iPhone support page, ever since the introduction of iOS 11, some users report crackling sounds with some human voice packs when using audio apps, including mySleepButton. This affects some users who use human mySleepButton voice packs. Please visit our iPhone support web page for recommendations.
One of the reasons why we value sleep is that getting enough sleep is essential to living a productive life. CogSci Apps co-founders, Luc P. Beaudoin and Brian Shi are cognitive productivity experts. Beaudoin has recently published the second installment of his second book on the subject: Cognitive Productivity with macOS®: 7 Principles for Getting Smarter
